Second Chinese High-Tech Fair Opens in ShenzhenThe Second Chinese High-Tech Fair opened on Thursday in Shenzhen, the first special economic zone in China.Vice Premier Wu Bangguo attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. He said that high technology represented by information technology (IT) is imposing great influence on the development of the economy, culture and society of various countries as well as human progress. China will continue its strategy of invigorating the country by relying on science and education and accelerate the transformation of high technology into productive forces. He quoted the proposal passed by the 5th Plenary Session of the 15th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) as saying that China will realize leap-and-bound development of productive forces by combining industrialization with information technology. The Chinese government encourages and tries to attract overseas businesses to invest in China's high-tech industries with more preferential policies. Wu vowed to check infringements of intellectual property rights (IPR) so as to create a fair, equal, and open environment for high-tech enterprises. The vice-premier said the interrelations among countries will become more and more close amid economic globalization. It will be of significance for different countries to conduct extensive exchanges and cooperation in the field of science and technology. The ongoing fair will offer new opportunities for such cooperation and further exploration of the international market, he added. The Second Chinese High-Tech Fair is jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Information Industry, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the people's government of Shenzhen City. Delegations from 34 countries and regions, and over 3,500 Chinese businesses applied to take part in the fair, which will last for six days. |
