Hong Kong to Celebrate World Standards Day 2000

Hong Kong will be joining the global community in celebration of World Standards Day 2000 Saturday.

The World Standards Day is celebrated on October 14 every year by members of the International Organization for Standardization and the International Electrotechnical Commission, which are major organizations involved in development of international standards.

The theme of the Millennium World Standards Day is "Peace and Prosperity in 2000", reflecting the organizations' conviction that standardization, if rightly understood and applied, can do a lot for the peace and prosperity of the world.

"The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government will continue its support of adoption and use of international standards," a spokesman for the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) said Wednesday.
