Third ASEM Summit to be Broadcast Worldwide

The third Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit slated for October 19-21 will be broadcast worldwide, the Korea Broadcasting System (KBS) said Friday.

During the summit, a total of nine hours and 20 minutes -- including five hours and 20 minutes of live broadcasts -- will be on the air.

Eleven Asian broadcasters belonging to the Asian-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) secured their broadcasting booths in the international broadcasting center at the ASEM Convention Center in southern Seoul, including CCTV of China, NHK and NTV of Japan, TV3 and Media Corp. of Singapore, RPM of Malaysia, RTV of Brunei, and RPM of the Philippines.

All European broadcasters, with the exception of the BBC and APTN of the United Kingdom, will receive broadcast signals from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) which has a berth at the center.

For broadcasters that don't belong to the EBU or ABU, the KBS will provide recorded videotapes upon request.

The ASEM summit and its related events will also be broadcast on the official Seoul ASEM web site (http://www.asem3.go.kr) as well as the KBS site (http://www.kbs.co.kr).

Leaders of 10 Asian and 15 European countries and the European Union president will attend the biennial summit.
