WTO Entry to Strengthen Chinese Mainland's Ties with HK SARChina's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), which could come soon later this year, will magnify the Chinese mainland's business ties with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), a senior Chinese trade official was quoted as saying by Thursday's Chinadaily.Zhang Xiang, vice minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operation (MOFTEC), made the prediction at a press conference on Wednesday for the second China High-tech Fair in south China's Shenzhen City. China's impending WTO accession means the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong will be able to do business as fellow members instead of posing any threat to Hong Kong's position as the shipping, financial, trade and information center in south China, he said. The week-long fair, which opened Wednesday, has drawn more than 12,500 scientific projects from various provinces, universities and enterprises. It is designed to facilitate the turning of scientific achievements into practical and marketable products and services. The fair will benefit companies in China's high-tech sector, many of which are looking to get listed on the second board of the mainland's stock market, which is expected to go into operation within the year. |
