Yugoslav President-elect Meets China's Ambassador"Yugoslav-Chinese relations are very important and bilateral economic cooperation and trade should be further developed," Vojislav Kostunica, President-Elect of Yugoslavia, said Wednesday when meeting Pan Zhanlin, Chinese ambassador to Yugoslavia.During the meeting, Pan conveyed Chinese President Jiang Zemin's congratulations to Kostunica on his election victory and Kostunica thanked him for it. President Kostunica said it would be easier for both Yugoslavia and China to further develop cooperation in politics, economy and culture, if sanctions imposed on Yugoslavia were removed. Referring to Yugoslavia's domestic situation, Kostunica said, "The top priority should be normalizing relations between Serbia and Montenegro and relieving tensions after the presidential elections so as to establish a federal republic of Yugoslavia as soon as possible." Kostunica also expressed his desire to join the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and the Council of Europe. But participation in these organizations should not infringe on the independence and sovereignty of the state and national dignity of Yugoslavia, he stressed. |
