China to Build National Information Security System: MII Minister

To secure the sound development of its information industry, China should build a technically advanced, safe and independent national information security system, said the Minister of Information Industry Wu Jichuan.

The sustained rapid growth of the information industry has contributed significantly to the country's economic development, industrial restructuring and the improvement of people's living standards in recent years.

However, while people benefit from the openness and ease with which they can deliver and obtain information on the Internet, this very openness also makes it hard to keep the system safe from hackers.

Various "cybervandals" have posed a threat to the sovereignty, security and social stability of many countries.

China will face greater pressures and challenges in the information field after its entry into the World Trade Organization.

Therefore, the State should make every effort to improve information security.

Firstly, all net operators should take strict precautions to guard their websites and systems.

Currently, the country's information infrastructure network is upgrading towards the next-generation net. During this process, net operators should make great efforts to increase the safety, accountability and invulnerability of the net. And concerned departments should strengthen their management techniques and establish and perfect regulations to remove hidden perils.

Secondly, professional service agents should be set up to provide information security safeguards. With their expertise such agents will help net operators and users to monitor and check their net and application systems against possible security problems.

Finally, China should enhance the research and development of information security techniques by focusing on core technology.

While setting up a development fund based on investment from the State and non-government institutions, venture capital should also be introduced to facilitate the development of China's information security technology and equipment system.
