China to Rebuild Oldest Hydrologic Station on Yangtze

China is to rebuild its oldest hydrometric station, White Crane Ridge, known as Baiheliang in Chinese, on the Yangtze River.

The station, built 1,200 years ago to measure river levels, will be moved from its present site as that area will be flooded by the Three Gorges Reservoir in three years.

A local cultural official says the 1.2-million - U.S.- dollar project will start early next year and finish before 2009.
