CPPCC Chairman Meets Bolivian Guest

CPPCC Chairman Meets Former Bolivia President
Li Ruihuan, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met Tuesday with Jaime Paz Zamora, former president of Bolivia and chairman of the Bolivian Leftist Revolutionary Movement (LRM).

Li, also chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, extended a warm welcome to Zamora and his delegation.

He said both China and Bolivia are developing countries boasting ancient civilizations, and they have conducted successful cooperation in all fields and supported and worked with each other in world affairs since the establishment of diplomatic ties.

Li said China has undergone great changes and registered eye-catching achievements during the past 20-plus years since the country's reform and opening. However, due to its huge population, poor economic basis, and relative shortage of natural resources, its per capita index in many sectors is still lagging, he pointed out.

Therefore for China, development should be the mantra of both the CPC and the Chinese Government, he said.

To steadfastly stick to the central task of economic construction and the purpose of development has been proven successful after many years of practice, and is also a target China should always strive to hit, Li stressed.

Zamora said the LRM has maintained a traditional friendship with the CPC and is willing to continue promoting bilateral ties so as to benefit people of both countries.

Bolivia and China, both as developing countries, should deepen mutual support and cooperation when faced with the challenges created by rapid economic globalization.

Bolivia admires China for maintaining its dignity and vigor while tackling such challenges, Zamora said, expressing the belief that friendly cooperation between the two countries would benefit bilateral ties.
