Chinese Vice Premier Meets OAU Secretary-General

China is willing to work with the Organization of African Unity (OAU) and all African countries to expand Sino-African friendly relations in the new century.

Chinese Vice Premier Qian Qichen made the remarks Tuesday while meeting with Salim Ahmed Salim, secretary-general of the OAU, who is here to attend the China-Africa Cooperation Forum --

Ministerial Conference Beijing 2000.

Qian said that it is of significance to hold such a forum in the history of Sino-African relations.

Chinese government attaches importance to Africa, Qian said, adding that the consolidation of unity between China and African countries and other developing countries has always been an important component of China's independent foreign policy of peace.

Qian noted that China supports Africa's unity and the African countries' efforts to improve their economy.

Salim said that Africa is faced with the task of developing economy, and all African countries need to strengthen cooperation so as to cope with the challenge of economic globalization.

He added that the OAU and other African regional organizations are committed to Africa's integration, and will expand the cooperation with China.
