Urumqi to Host Meeting on Investment in W. China

More than 100 Chinese and foreign officials and experts will gather in Urumqi, capital of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, October 13-14, to discuss investment in underdeveloped west China.

The meeting, dubbed as "Round Table Conference on Foreign Investment and Development of Mining in Western China," will be jointly sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Land and Resources and the World Bank.

At the two-day conference, participants will review China's laws on mining and financial issues concerning the mining industry.

They will also learn about the latest national and regional policies on mining, especially preferential policies on investment in the mining sector of the western region.

A number of mining projects for local and overseas investors will be published by participants from western China during the meeting.

Official sources said China plans to attract more funds from overseas to explore and develop domestic mineral resources, further relax restrictions on over mineral concession, allow foreign companies to conduct risk inspecting as sole investors or in joint ventures, and encourage foreign business people to invest in comprehensive utilization of mineral resources.
