Broadband Helps Metropolitan Cities' Heads in Beijing

Heads from more than 30 world metropolitan cities are now enjoying world top communications service provided by Beijing Telecom in Beijing Hotel, where the Sixth Major Cities' Summit is being held, an evidence that Beijing is leading China into an era of foremost information and digital technology.

As host to the world mayors' summit, Beijing is doing all its possibility to present by itself a good image as a metropolitan city, and this is directly reflected in its information service. To meet the summit's demand, Beijing Telecom has made available a full set of comprehensive broadband service system within the shortest time in representing not only Beijing's technological level but also the direction of its information process: to build broadband networks.

Broadband networks can transfer more information at a faster speed, enabling high- speed net surfing, video, LAN interconnection, as well as high-level net meetings. Its services include e-business, e-banks, telelearning, online entertainment and program asking as are generally needed for Beijing's CBD, government institutions, enterprises and individual users.

Information process is a must for development and a high-quality life to be led in Beijing. Against pressure from foreign counterparts after China's WTO accession, China Telecom is demanded to raise its technological level and service quality. To build Beijing's network into an internationally advanced broadband information net and take the lead in developing China's telecom service will be the most urgent and practical task facing China Telecom.
