HK to Conduct Census in 2001

Hong Kong will conduct a census between March 15 and 27 next year, said Frederick Ho, commissioner for census & statistics of Hong Kong Tuesday.

"Around 2.8 million sets of forms will need to be processed. In order to achieve the target of completing the data input process within three months from end-March to end-June 2001, we have decided to implement data capturing by using the Optical Mark Recognition technique," Ho said.

The technique will be provided by Kodak (Far East) Limited.

Hong Kong's population as of the end of 1999 was 6,974,800, according to figures released by the Census and Statistics Department of Hong Kong in February.
