Asian Experts to Discuss Intellectual Property on New Technology
China's State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) started today to organize an Asian regional seminar on intellectual property protection of new technology.
The two-day seminar is meant to enhance intellectual property awareness in developing countries in Asia and launch new policies to protect up-to-date technology.
More than 200 domestic experts and 37 others from 21 Asian countries and regions are scheduled to discuss the intellectual property rights of computer software, biotechnology, digital works, trademarks and web domains.
Kamil Idris, WIPO's director-general, said that his organization has cooperated with China on a wide range of activities. In less than 20 years, China has developed a modern and well-functioning intellectual property system.
"Intellectual property protection of new technologies is one of many challenges we face in the coming new century," Idris said.
SIPO Commissioner Jiang Ying said that a well-advised law will safeguard further development of new technology.
The revised Patent Law, which was completed this year, demonstrates China's resolve to encourage initiative and innovation in the field of science and technology, Jiang said.
WIPO and SIPO organized five international symposia in the past two years. The advanced idea brought into China by worldwide experts has greatly contributed to wider understanding of the concept in the country.
