Guangdong Quickens Construction of Telecom Wide-band Network
Guangdong Province Spares no efforts in quickening the construction of wide-band high-speed information telecom network and, by the use of high-speed optical communication and wide-band multimedia exchange technology, in establishing in the province a new-generation information communication network, which combines phonetics, data and image in one entity, so as to meet the communication demand of the future information society.
Guangdong Province has established a transmission network with the 16��2.2 Gbps DWDM system as the backbones. In the Pearl River Delta, optical fiber network has stretched to every village. The ATM network has covered the whole province. The Guangdong Public Multimedia Information Network (163/169) has covered all the cities, counties, important districts and towns. This year, Guangdong Telecom combined for the first time the IP over DWDM optical network with the high-capacity IP network and established China's first super high-speed IP main network, thus raising the band-width of the chain between the information network of light velocity telecom and key network from 622 Mbps to 2.5 Gbps.
In order to meet the users' demand for wide-band connection and other wide-band multimedia telecom services, Guangdong Telecom also constructed the largest ADSL commercial network of China, which covers the main cities of the Pearl River Delta. On this basis, Guangdong Telecom invested several hundred million yuan more in the capacity-enlargement and optimization of the internet. Meanwhile, it opened 2.5G lines from Guangzhou to Beijing and Guangzhou to Shanghai. It also constructed a 2.5G internet exit for the provincial network to join the national main network in Shenzhen.
Presently, some developed cities of the Pearl River Delta such as Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan, Shunde and Nanhai are busily constructing city-wide IP network, which will enable the users to be connected to each other and surf the internet at a high speed. Guangdong Telecom will fully start the construction of the wide-band comprehensive telecom network and strive for the establishment of wide-band telecom network in three years.
