Third China Int'l Puppet Festival Opens

The third China International Puppet Festival opened Monday in Quanzhou, a coastal city in southeast China's Fujian province.

Thirty-two delegations from nine countries or regions, including Singapore, Japan, Britain, Belgium, New Zealand, the Philippines, Taiwan and Hong Kong, attended today's event, the organization committee said.

The four-day festival contains the opening ceremony, puppet performances, performances on streets and an inauguration for a puppet museum.

A special stamp, "puppet and mask", is to be jointly issued by China and Brazil with a stamp exhibition held by the two countries.

Famous for its traditional puppet arts, Quanzhou is one of China's 99 cities designated by the State Council as famous historical and cultural sites.
