Cyprus Interior Minister Hails Sino-Cyprus Relations

Christodoulos Chritodoulou, minister of interior of Cyprus, said Monday in Beijing that the relations between Cyprus and China are friendly and they are characterized by a spirit of cooperation and understanding.

In an interview with Xinhua, Christodoulos said that developing relations between the two countries benefits the two peoples and peace and prosperity of the world.

He noted that the bilateral relations between the two countries are based on mutual respect, equality and non-interference in each other's internal affairs.

Relations between Cyprus and China are developing "very positively" in many fields, such as commerce, culture and cooperation in international affairs, he said.

There is always room for further development, the minister said, adding that he hopes his visit to China will help develop relations between the two countries.

"I consider the visit as an opportunity and challenge to contribute to the further development of the existing excellent relations and cooperation between China and Cyprus," Christodoulos said.

He said that he will discuss matters of mutual interest with his Chinese colleagues, such as local government and administrative decentralization, civil defence, marriages of convenience, non-governmental organizations and international issues during his visit to China.

Christodoulos is here at the invitation of the Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs.
