Taiwan Authorities Urged to Accept One-China PrincipleA celebrity in Macao said Monday that the Taiwan authorities should accept the One-China principle and resume cross-Straits talks as soon as possible."We want to tell the Taiwan authorities that there is only one China in the world. Any attempts to create 'Taiwan independence', 'two Chinas' or 'one China, one Taiwan' will not succeed," said Ma Man Kei, chairman of the Macao Chamber of Commerce. He made the remarks at a gathering to mark the 89th anniversary of the Revolution of 1911 which overthrew the rule of thousands of years of feudal monarchy and put forth the slogan of "revitalizing China." Dr. Sun Yat-sen, leader of the revolution and founder of the Kuomintang Party, joined hands with the Communist Party of China in the 1920s to fight against reactionary warlords. Ma Man Kei noted that the Taiwan authorities should put priority to the overall interests of the Chinese nation, resume cross-Straits talks as soon as possible and resolve different views with consultations. "People across the (Taiwan) Straits are all Chinese who alike respect Dr. Sun Yat-sen," Ma said, adding that Dr. Sun's wish to reunify the country should be fulfilled. "We hold the firm belief that the Taiwan question, following Hong Kong and Macao's return to the motherland, will surely be addressed and China's complete reunification will be achieved," Ma Man Kei said. Hundreds of people from various walks of life in Macao attended the gathering held at the Kiang Wu Hospital where Dr. Sun had worked in his youth years. |
