China Distributes More Newspapers through Postal Network

China's postal departments now help distribute 6,172 different newspapers and magazines every year, with distribution volume hitting 20.8 billion copies, according to latest statistics from the State Administration of Post (SAP).

At Monday's ceremony to mark SAP's contribution to the development of newspapers and magazines, Tan Xiaowei, deputy director of the SAP, noted that the SAP has set up a comprehensive network for the distribution since it took the job 50 years ago.

He noted that nearly one third of the 500,000 employees in postal departments are engaged in the transport and mailing of these publications.

In the past few years, the SAP also upgraded its distribution network and linked all its branches with computers, said Tan.

China now has more than 2,000 newspapers and 8,000 magazines.
