UN Special Envoy to Mediate Between Myanmar Govt, Opposition

A special envoy of UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan arrived here Monday to seek channels to mediate between the Myanmar government and the opposition to settle the country's fresh political crisis.

Razali Ismail, who is visiting Myanmar for the second time, is expected to meet leaders of the government and the National League for Democracy (NLD).

Razali's visit comes at a time when fresh tension is building up between the government and the NLD.

Under the name of investigation, the government surrounded and searched NLD Yangon headquarters on September 2.

Razali last visited Myanmar in July and met with both sides but produced no result.
