Indo-Russia Arms Deal Destabilizes Region: Pakistan

Pakistan Monday said the recent defense agreement and arms deal between India and Russia will destabilize the region.

Foreign Office spokesman Riaz Muhammad Khan told reporters at a press briefing that Pakistan is concerned at the induction of massive quantities of new equipment recently contracted by India from Russia. "This does not promote security environment of trust, peace and stability", he said.

The spokesman said Pakistan pursues a policy of restraint and avoidance of arms race, conventional or nuclear. He also asked that the world major powers should play a positive role by pursuing India to resolve disputes and differences and follow path of dialogue and cooperation.
