China International Dragon Boat Racing Closes

An international dragon boat racing ended Sunday in Xiamen, coastal city of east China's Fujian Province. Over 500 people from 13 countries and regions took part in the contest.

Among the 13 teams that participated in the racing, a team from South China won the championship with a score of 39, and a Philippine team and an American team won the second and third places with scores of 33 and 28 respectively.

In another development, traditional Chinese dragon and lion dancing teams from Belgium, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Fujian and Guangdong entered contests of dancers.

In the dragon dance, a giant lantern in the shape of a dragon is decorated with burning candles inside and held high by a group of muscular young men. The lion dance features two actors who are clad in a lion-like costume, who jump to and fro, rolling along the ground and scratching like a naughty lion cub.
