S. African FM Departs for China-Africa Cooperation Forum
South African Foreign Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has left Johannesburg for Beijing to attend the first-ever China-Africa Cooperation Forum which is scheduled from next Tuesday to Thursday.
South Africa will try to seek a common ground with the People's Republic of China on ways to advance the interests of the developing world, said Ronnie Mamoepa, spokesman of the country's Foreign Affairs Department, on Sunday.
He said the two sides will also try to work out a practical trade agreement between them.
Dlamini-Zuma is accompanied by South African Trade and Industry Minister Alec Erwin, Foreign Affairs Department Director-General Sipho Pityana, other government officials and representatives of the private sector.
The aim of the forthcoming forum is to further consolidate the political and economic relationship between Africa and China.
Several topics will be discussed at the forum, including inter-governmental cooperation, trade and investment and cooperation on conventional arms control.
