East China City Holds Economic, Trade Fair

The month-long Suzhou Autumn Economic and Trade Investment Fair opened Sunday in Kunshan City of east China's Jiangsu Province, with 16 contracts signed between Chinese and overseas enterprises.

These contracts involve a total contractual overseas investment of over 312 million US dollars, an official of the organizing committee said.

More than 1,200 business people from the United States, Britain, Finland, Denmark, Taiwan, Hong Kong and other countries and regions were present at the fair in the first day, the official added.

It is learned that during the fair, the Kunshan economic development zone, the Kunshan export processing zone, the state agricultural development demonstration zone and the Kunshan high-tech industrial park will hold special meetings to attract overseas investment.

Other activities include trade talks and seminars on electronics and information and the impact of China's entry into the World Trade Organization on local economic development.

Presently business people form 54 countries and regions have invested in more than 2,000 enterprises from in Kunshan, with total contractual overseas investment topping nine billion US dollars. Nineteen among the world's top 500 enterprises have made investment in the city.
