Export of Chongqing up in First Eight Months

Chongqing, the largest industrial center in western China, exported 570 million US dollars worth of merchandise in the first eight months of this year, doubling that of the same period in 1999.

The export of general trade climbed to 510 million US dollars, while that of processing trade stood at 63.61 million US dollars, both doubling the figures a year ago, according to custom statistics released recently.

Motorcycles constitute more than half of Chongqing's export and the ratio of exported machinery and electronic products has risen from 27 percent to 43 percent.

Its export to other Asian countries maintained a rising momentum with the export value topping 370 million US dollars in the first eight months, while the value of exports to Europe and the United States declined.
