OAU Chief, Ethiopian Ministers Leave for China-Africa Cooperation Forum

Secretary General of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) Salim Ahmed Salim left Addis Ababa Sunday for Beijing, China, to attend the China-Africa Cooperation Forum which is scheduled for October 10-12.

Upon his departure at the airport, Salim told Xinhua that the forum sponsored by China is a "very constructive and timely initiative".

The Africans consider "this meaningful dialogue between China and African countries as a unique opportunity to foster relations and to examine concrete cooperation between the sides," said the OAU chief.

He expressed belief that through the forum, both China and African countries would have better understanding to each other, adding that he expected the forum to forge China-African comprehensive cooperation thus paving the way for the two sides to face challenges of globalization.

Ethiopian Foreign Minister Seyoum Mesfin and Vice Minister of Economic Development and Cooperation Mulatu Teshome also left for China today to attend the forum.
