Chinese, Gabonese Capital Cities to Further Cooperation

Beijing Mayor Liu Qi said Sunday that his city is willing to further cooperation with the Gabonese capital city of Libreville in the areas of economy, trade and culture.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Paul Abessole, mayor of Libreville.

Liu said that the Chinese government places great importance on its traditional friendship with African countries, and noted that the China-African Cooperation Forum is scheduled to be held in Beijing on October 10-12, and Gabonese foreign minister and finance minister will attend the event.

He said that Beijing, with a long history, splendid culture and modern infrastructure, is bidding for hosting the 2008 Olympic Games, and it is capable of making it a success. Beijing citizens are also looking forward to that, he added.

Abessole said that his city is prepared to promote cultural exchanges with Beijing, and supports its bid for hosting the 2008 Olympic Games.
