China to Send 87 Athletes to Sydney Paralympic Games

China is to send a 122-strong delegation including 87 athletes to the 11th Paralympic Games set for October 18-29 in Sydney, it was announced Sunday in Beijing.

The amateur athletes are to compete in 159 events of six sports-- athletics, swimming, table tennis, weightlifting, shooting and judo.

The athletes including 34 female, are from 22 Chinese provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions. Their ages range from 13 to 43 years old with an average age of 26.8 years. Of the athletes 65 are to make their Paralympic debut in Sydney.

The athletes had taken closed-door pre-Games training camps for up to three months in Chinese cities of Nanjing, Kunming, Fuzhou, Xi'an and Tianjin.
