Mud Volcano: Rare Natural Landscape in Xinjiang

Chinese geological experts said recently while prospecting the mud volcano in Dushanzi of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region that the mud volcano is a rare natural landscape in the world and it's more scarce for the erupting volcanoes like this one in Xinjiang. They suggested that this valuable tourism resource be developed at the earliest possible date.

This 945 meters high yellow hill is called mud volcano and mud-spurting hill as well. There are four volcanic vents ranging between 30-40 cm in diameter, with the small one as big as an egg and spurting magma unceasingly at the top of the hill. The magma is silvery gray and cold with a strong smell of petroleum.

According to geological inspection, the mud volcano in Dushanzi was formed about 2-3 million years ago. It has entered its late period of geological action and is spurting in a way of intermission.
