The total retail sales volume reached 258.12 billion yuan in south China's Guangdong Province for the first eight months of this year, up 12.2 percent on a yearly basis.
The province has adopted various measures to stimulate the local consumption market in the past few years, including lowering electricity prices in rural areas, encouraging credit consumption and carrying out reform of State-owned enterprises.
From 1996 to 1999, the province's retail sales volume increased from 257.8 billion yuan to 365.6 billion yuan, statistics show.
