The 14th Macao International Music Festival was unveiled at the Macao Cultural Center Saturday night.
The opening performance was opera Otello adapted by Italian dramatist Giuseppe Verdi from one of Shakespeare's four tragedies. The opera will be staged in three shows in Macao.
In addition to the grandeur of the opera, the festival includes two ballets of Tchaikovsky and Sleeping Beauty, the 2nd Symphony by Mahler, the Yellow River Cantata by Macao-born Chinese composer Xian Xinghai, and a number of concerts of different music forms.
The music festival, which will lasts to Oct. 21, will witness a total of 16 performances with the participation of more than 400 performers and about a dozen art bodies from around the world.
