Medal Winning Athletes Receive More Awards

The Henry Ying Tung Fok Sports Foundation Saturday awarded gold medals and 2.4 million US dollars to the Chinese athletes who won medals at the 27th Olympic Games in Sydney in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Li Ruihuan, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), attended the ceremony.

Henry Ying Tung Fok, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, highly praised the athletes for their achievements.

He said that the Chinese athletes had won great honor for the motherland and the people, adding that he hopes China will succeed in its bid to sponsor the 2008 Olympic Games.

Fok's foundation also awarded medals and money to athletes from Taiwan who won medals in Sydney.

Yuan Weimin, director of the State General Administration of Sport, commended Henry Ying Tung Fok for his contribution to China's sporting cause over the past few decades.
