Chinese Vice-Premier Calls for Tourism DevelopmentChinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen, during a recent visit to northern Shanxi Province on October 3-6, stressed that China should further develop its tourism industry by encouraging multi-provincial cooperation.Qian said that he was satisfied with the smooth social order during the National Day holidays, even though tens of millions of tourists traveled in the country. He attributed the achievements to the State Council's policy of maintaining order during the holidays and the good performance of China's railways, communications, civil aviation and tourism administrative departments. China's tourism industry should try to introduce more foreign funds and establish joint-venture tourist service agencies with the approaching of China's entry into the World Trade Organization, Qian said. He suggested forming some multi-provincial tourist routes, in a bid to make best use of abundant tourism resources and provide more choices for travelers.
