Taiwan Stocks Fall 1.64 Percent

The Taiwan stocks closed down Saturday with the weighted index plunging 1.64 percent at 6,352.03, according to local media.

The turnover was 92.44 billion new Taiwan dollars (2.95 billion U.S. dollars), a decrease of 5 billion new Taiwan dollars (160 million U.S. dollars) from 97.44 billion new Taiwan dollars (3.11 billion U.S. dollars) on Friday.

Of the eight major categories, pulp and paper issues moved up 0.8 percent and electronics rose 0.5 percent, while the rest all lost ground.

The bourse opened at 6,385.39, and fluctuated between 6,425.69 and 6,289.52 during trading.
