China's Foreign Trade Structure ChangedFollowing are the facts and figures about China's foreign trade structure in the Ninth Five-year Plan period (1996-2000), provided by the State Development Planning Commission.The export volume of manufactured products accounted for 89.8 percent of China's total export volume, up 4.2 percentage points over 1995 and the import volume accounted for 83.8 percent of the total, up 2.3 percentage points. Among the total export volume, 13.7 percent was high-tech products in 1999, a rise of 5.2 percentage points over 1995, while they accounted for 22.6 percent of the total import volume, up 6.3 percentage points. The proportion of general trade among the foreign trade volume climbed from 40.85 percent in 1995 to 43.11 percent in the first six months of this year. The proportion of processing trade dropped from 49.54 percent in 1995 to 48.74 percent by July this year. State-owned enterprises contributed to 46.27 percent of the total import and export volume in the first half of this year, declining from 1995's 58.62 percent. The collective and private enterprises contributed to 4.46 percent of the total, doubling over 1995.
