Qingdao Port Handles More Foreign Trade

Qingdao port in east China's Shandong Province handled 37.89 million tons of import and export commodities in the first eight months of this year, valuing 16.05 billion US dollars.

This amount almost equals the total 1999 foreign trade volume, said port authorities, who attributed the increase to the rise in foreign trade for the whole country.

Imports and exports accounted for 66 percent of the port's combined handling capacity, up ten percent over the same period of last year, sources said.

Statistics also show that Qingdao airport handled 1.63 million passengers in the eight-month period, up 21.6 percent year-on-year.
