Budapest Festival Orchestra to Perform in HK

The Budapest Festival Orchestra, one of the most successful international musical ensembles, will be in Hong Kong this month to bring music followers magnificent musical performance.

The orchestra was founded in 1983 by conductor Ivan Fischer and pianist Zoltan Kocsis. Today, it is not only Hungary's finest and most popular symphonic orchestra, but one of the most successful musical ensembles internationally.

Together with the orchestra is Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, one of the most famous sopranos of the century, who was born in New Zealand and carries the exotic blood of native Maori aristocracy.

As a soloist at the wedding of HRH Prince Charles in St. Paul's Cathedral, she faced one of the largest direct telecast audience of any singer in history. In the genre of opera, she is a familiar figure in the leading opera houses of the world.

To maximize the opportunity for Hong Kong audience to enjoy her lovely voice with different interpretations, Kanawa finally chooses to perform different program in two concerts. There will be Handel's "Lascia ch'io Piango", "Non disperar" and "Piangero la sorre mia" on October 20, as well as Mozart's "Chi sa, Chi sa, qual sia" and "Nehmt meinen dank" on October 22.
