Taiwan Names New ``Vice Premier'' in Cabinet Reshuffle

Taiwan on Thursday named Grand Justice Lai In-jaw to the post of ``vice premier'' as part of a minor cabinet reshuffle, ``premier-designate'' Chang Chun-hsiung said.

Vice ``Finance Minister'' Yen Ching-chang was appointed ``finance minister'', replacing Shea Jia-dong, Chang told a news conference.

``Economics Minister'' Lin Hsin-i and other cabinet members were reappointed one day after they handed in their resignations following the resignation of former ``premier'' Tang Fei, Chang said.

Lai, a former ``vice finance minister'' who is an independent, replaces Chang.

Chang was promoted to succeed Tang, who had announced his resignation on Tuesday.

Tang cited deteriorating health for his decision to step down, but it came after a row over whether to go ahead with construction of the island's 4th nuclear power plant. (Source: chinadaily.com.cn)
