Northern Port City Improving Exhibition Industry

Qinghuangdao, a port city in north China's Hebei province, has started constructing an international exhibition center to improve its exhibition industry.

"Hundreds of conferences are held in Qinghuangdao each summer, significantly contributing to the development of local tourism," said a local official.

"It is thereby urgent for us to set up a large-scale exhibition center," he added.

According to expert Wang Zhanhong, the mild climate, beautiful natural scenery, advanced tourist facilities and convenient traffic conditions are all favorable for Qinghuangdao to develop the exhibition industry.

The exhibition industry has registered rapid growth since 1978 when China began the policy of reforming and opening-up. The country has built over 300 large exhibition centers in recent years, with a total floor space exceeding one million square meters.

Qinghuangdao is also a nationally-famous tourist attraction, 270-km away from Beijing.
