Beijing Opera on Campus During China Art Festival
The Shanghai Beijing Opera Theater was in Nanjing University to spread knowledge about the traditional Chinese Opera.
Beijing Opera originated from Hui Opera during the Qing Dynasty. Through the hardships of several generations, the opera now has a unified standard.
"The development of Shanghai Beijing Opera can not be separated from audience support. We need more young people to appreciate the opera for the better of tomorrow," said Lin Hongming, general manager of the opera theater.
The theater blends a combination of tradition and reality to satisfy modern tastes. Since 1995, the theater has been promoting opera amongst university students and won applause throughout the nation.
The lecture concluded after two hours, but the students were still filled with enthusiasm. A student from the Chemistry Department commented, "It's too late when I got to know Beijing Opera today but I love it so much."
Another one from the Chinese Language Department said, "My parents were fans for the opera. I was interested in it since my childhood. Today I came from another city for the live show."
The third one from the History Department remarked, "It is a golden opportunity to have such a General Education course every week. I need these common knowledge."
