Libya, Egypt to Deploy Military Observers to Sudan-Uganda Border
Libya and Egypt are to deploy military observers at the Uganda-Sudan border, Ugandan Minister for the Presidency Ruhakana Rugunda confirmed Wednesday in a telephone interview with Xinhua.
He said that an Egyptian-Libyan-Ugandan panel will meet in mid-October to outline the tasks of the observers, adding that the observers will try to establish whether or not there is arms trafficking and military logistics from Uganda to the Sudan's rebels.
The minister said that a technical team from Uganda is to travel to the Sudan's capital Khartoum to discuss the modalities of the deployment.
Uganda and the Sudan, which broke off diplomatic relations in 1995, last week made fresh pledges to stop supporting each other's rebels, improve ties and exchange diplomats.
Uganda accused the Sudan of harboring the Lord's Resistance Army rebels in camps close to the Ugandan border, while Rwanda accused Uganda of supporting the Sudan People's Liberation Army.
