Luxemburgo Sacked for Brazil's Olympic Crackdown

Wanderley Luxemburgo, head coach of Brazil's Olympic team, has been sacked for his side's crackdown in the Sydney Olympics, the president of the Brazilian football federation Ricardo Teixeira announced on Monday.

Brazil, the hot favorites for the gold medal of the soccer competition, fell short in a 2-1 loss to the eventual champions Cameroon in the quarter-finals in Sydney.

Teixeira did not name a successor but said the national team's technical director Candinho would coach the team for the 2002 World Cup qualifier against Venezuela on October 8.

Luxemburgo, 49, had got his warning when Brazil finished fourth in their 10-team World Cup qualifying group and the failure in Sydney destined him to the sacking.
