Barak and Arafat to Meet in Egypt

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat will meet with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo Thursday, a statement issued by Prime Minister's Office said Tuesday afternoon.

The meeting, following Barak-Arafat talks in Paris hosted by US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, is obviously an attempt to defuse the tensions between the two sides and renew their peace talks.

The bloody riots in the West Bank and Gaza Strip in the past few days have killed nearly 50 Palestinians and wounded hundreds others.
