Castro to Attend Former Canadian Prime Minister's Funeral
Cuban President Fidel Castro is among a number of foreign dignitaries to attend the state funeral of Canada's late prime minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau Tuesday in Montreal, the Canadian government announced here Monday.
Other confirmed foreign representatives include Greek President Konstatinos Stephanopoulos, former U.S. president Jimmy Carter, Prime Minister of Guyana Samuel Hinds and Don Johnston, secretary-general of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, according to the announcement.
Trudeau, who was in power between 1968 and 1979 and between 1980 and 1984, died of prostate cancer Thursday, three weeks before he would have turned 81.
Canadians have been in national mourning since their most treasured political giant passed away at home in Montreal.
