Chinese Leaders Meets Olympic Athletes

Top leaders of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government today met with the China sports delegation who had a record harvest of medals at the Sydney Millennium Olympic Games.

Chinese President Jiang Zemin, and other senior Party and government officials, including Li Peng, Zhu Rongji, Hu Jintao, Wei Jianxing and Li Lanqing, met with the delegation at the Great Hall of the People.

Li Ruihuan, who is on a business trip outside Beijing, has already sent a telegraph of congratulation to the delegation.

At the just-concluded Sydney Olympic Games, China pocketed record-high 28 gold, 16 silver and 15 bronze medals, ranking third at the medal table only behind the United States and Russia.
