Taiwan Stocks Plunge 161 Points

The Taiwan Stock Exchange continued its downward streak on Monday, with the benchmark weighted price plunging 161.07 points to close at 6,024.07, according to reports reaching here.

Only two of the eight major categories posted gains, with plastics and chemical stocks reporting the biggest increase of 0.7 percent, while foodstuff shares remained unchanged.

The other major categories lost ground, with electrical shares moving down the most at 3.5 percent.

Monday's market turnover amounted to 67.5 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 2.16 billion U.S. dollars).
