Beijing Bans Barbecue Businesses in Public Areas

Beijing citizens may have to look a lot harder to find barbecue stalls on the streets in the future, as the municipal government recently issued a regulation banning such businesses.

There used to be many vagrant peddlers selling barbecued meat in the streets, residential areas and in some public areas in Beijing without getting permission from the local office of commerce and industry.

The barbecue business not only contaminates the land but also produces smoke that pollutes the air.

Starting October 1, such illegal businesses will be banned. Anyone who defies the ban will be fined no less than 5,000 yuan (about 602 U.S. dollars), according to the regulation.
