Greece Urged to Help Resolve Palestinian Problem

Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat Sunday called on Greece to play a very important role for the just settlement of the Palestinian problem.

In an interview with Greece's Vradini newspaper Sunday, Arafat said that he asked Greece in particular and Europe in general to play greater role so that a peaceful solution could be found to the problem.

He stressed that Greece could play a very important role, both at a political and religious level.

As for the issue of the proclamation of the independence of the Palestinian state, Arafat said that the historic decision would be taken by the Central Council of the Palestinians early in November.

He complained that they had twice postponed the proclamation of the independence of the Palestinian state.

The peace talks between Palestine and Israel have been deadlocked in recent months as both sides refuse to make any concessions.
