Symphony Introduced into Beijing Opera

A classical symphonic piece composed by Beethoven has been introduced into China's traditional Beijing opera, which was performed at the ongoing Sixth China Art Festival in Nanjing, capital of east Jiangsu Province.

Beethoven's musical works are planned to add an exotic flavor and better sound effect to the opera, which was rehearsed by Shanghai Beijing Opera Theater and recounts political affairs during the Tang Dynasty (618-907).

Not only borrowing symphony music in their performance, the Beijing opera theater also invited nationwide playwrights and directors to improve the opera piece, which participates in competition for awards during the national art festival.

Playwright Dai Yinglu said the opera theater took bold steps to combine a symphony and the traditional Chinese opera.

Well-known actors Shang Changrong and Guan Huai join the performers' list.

At the 16-day art festival, which will end on October 13, a total of 21 performances of 13 kinds of operas will be put on in different locations.
