Corrupt Police Officer in Hainan Punished

Lu Jinglin, formerly deputy head of Hainan Provincial Public Security Bureau, has been sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment after being found guilty of three crimes including taking bribes and abuse of power.

The punishment was handed down by the Intermediate People's Court of Haikou City in a first-instance trial Saturday, said local sources.

Lu was also deprived of his political rights for three years. The illegal wealth worth of 646,592 US dollars Lu accumulated through illegal means, along with three housing properties were all confiscated.

After the trial, Lu said he would lodge an appeal to a higher- level court.
