Exhibition of "Military Parade" Opens in BeijingA replica of the grand military parade marking the 50th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China last year, was on display at the China Centenary Altar in the Chinese capital today, China's 51st National Day.This is an exhibition of small painted sculptures which have been made in ratios of 1:8 or 1:10 the actual size of the military portion of the parade, including troops and military equipment. The event was sponsored by the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence and other government organizations. The exhibition truly reflects the grand military parade on October 1, 1999, which consists of 42 different formations and various military equipment. The sculptures were completed by professors from Central Academy of Fine Arts in the past year. Archaeologists say they are of high value. Today is also the first day of the opening of the China Centenary Altar to visitors. Some 20,000 people visited the "military parade" this morning. The exhibition will be displayed all across the country after it closes in Beijing on October 15. Chi Haotian, member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee and vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission, Cheng Siyuan, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition. |
